At last year’s event one of the coolest things for kids was the netted activity area. Here kids got a chance to play basketball with one another, form hockey games, play wheelchair basketball and more. It wasn’t just the kids who got into the act. Often parents and older kids joined into the fun too, making it a family experience. When there wasn’t an actual game going on there were experienced athletes available so that parents and kids could get instruction or more information about a sport they didn’t know much about. Right next to the netted area, also enclosed in, was an area where anyone could throw their best fast pitch and have the miles per hour of their pitch calculated. So come on out and shoot some hoops or test your pitching strength.

Have you ever wondered what it was about Zumba that everyone loves so much, or if you could keep pace at your local Jazzercise class, or what in the world a Kettlebell looks like? If there is one thing that’s great about the Healthy & Fit Magazine Expo, it’s introducing the community to new, fun ways to incorporate an exercise routine into even the busiest lifestyle. Last year’s demonstration stage provided an ongoing host of the newest and most innovative ways to get healthy and fit. Not only could participates watch but they could jump right in and try the routines out for themselves. Not only could participates try it but they could try it for FREE!

For me it was great to finally see Zumba in action. I had heard so much about it, but never had a chance to see for myself why it was considered the new, fun way to stay in shape. It was clear to me that is was fun too after seeing community members get involved in the demonstration with huge smiles on their faces. It was also great to see everyone participating in the Jazzercise workouts. Everyone from kids to senior citizens alike had a chance to get a feel for what Jazzercise was all about. The instructor, Pam Lynch, was great about getting everyone on their feet and involved. Then there was the Kettlebell demonstration. I’ve never pictured myself as a weight lifter but after learning more about Kettlebells and trying out the weights for myself on the demo stage, I was surprised to find I actually enjoyed it.

One of the main attractions at last years expo, was also one of my favorite. Of course, I’m talking about the giant inflatable tiki head climbing wall for kids and the full sized obstacle course for the whole family. Because the Healthy & Fit Magazine expo booth was set up right next to the climbing wall, I got a great view of child after child climbing up the wall, their faces glowing as they reached the top. Three kids at a time were able to make their way to the top, keeping the lines for the attraction low. Parents were then able to walk around and visit with vendors, getting valuable health news, while their kids made their way to the top.
Parents and kids alike could then head over to the large-scale inflatable obstacle course. Here they could race one another to the finish, weaving through five foot padded stanchions, and climbing up a wall before crossing the finish line. I’ll never forget racing through the course with my sister while a large group of bystanders cheered us on.
